This module covers a special curriculum area of Montessori education i.e. Montessori Practical Life Skills.
Montessori Exercises of Practical Life (EPL) involve children performing everyday tasks commonly performed by adults in their environment. These activities are genuine, rooted in real-life situations, and when introduced at the right developmental stage, they enable children to perform tasks independently, fostering a lifelong sense of self-sufficiency.
This module presents a comprehensive range of step-by-step activities, from basic tasks like pouring water from a jug to more advanced ones such as washing dishes. These exercises are designed to meet a child’s natural desire to engage in purposeful work, encouraging active participation within the family and broader community. Promoting independence, instilling a love for work, building self-esteem, refining motor skills, developing good habits, and supporting the child’s overall normalization play a vital role in their holistic development.

Good lesson
Kuznetsova Evgeniya – Module 2 – EPL
Practical life exercises are the key to building self reliant children. Your presentation of these lessons was simple and easy to follow. The questions asked in the assignment were thoughtful and fun to complete. I enjoyed thinking aobut how to teach a 2 1/2 year old how to make a sandwich! I liked this module and would recommend this class to others.
It was great to see demonstrations of each presentation.
In this chapter we will learn how to present an EPL to the child before we encourage him to practice it himself. The first basic is that the directress, before she attempts a presentation in front of a child, must practice the activity as many times as possible so that the possibility for any sort of errors is as less as possible.
